I have been running away from this statement that Jesus makes for the last little while. We’ve been working through the beattitudes at church recently and for some reason I have been dreaded the ‘peacemaking’ week.
Usually when I go all ‘Jonah’ on God, at least I know what it is about. Right now I’m not sure, but this verse has come up about 5 times this week and each time I want to hear it less and less. I know this is something that I need to figure out…but I think first I need to figure out what Jesus means when he says ‘Blessed are the peacemakers’.
Thoughts?

Comment by adspar November 2, 2009 @ 5:48 pmive always thought it was one of the more relatively straight forward of the beatitudes – unlike the others which require some sort of insight in etymology or greater historical context this one i think is exactly what it says. Be a peace-maker, dont just avoid conflict and say nice things to refrain from participating in conflict, but rather charge head first into it in order to defuse it – most of the beatitudes involve a state of mind, this one requires action
so go and be peacefull
Comment by Andrew November 3, 2009 @ 2:23 pmmaybe my problem isn’t that I don’t know what the beattitude is refering to, but rather what it looks like to be a peacemaker in my life.
